During the last two years Alan Bullard has undertaken commissions for a number of choirs, including the Fairhaven Singers (Cambridge), the Romsey Festival Youth Choir, and the combined choirs of the Alde Sandlings Benefice (Aldeburgh, Suffolk). But most of these, and other pieces, had their performances, and publication, put on hold due to the pandemic.
A piece that did make its first performance just before Covid-19 struck was Make a Joyful Noise, commissioned by the choir of St. Guthlac’s Church, Market Deeping, directed by Peter Davies. It is published by OUP – details here, and if you are looking for a celebratory and energetic setting of Psalm 100 this is worth looking at.
Other recent additions to Bullard’s church music catalogue can be seen in the GIA Music catalogue. All of these can be ordered quickly from the USA as pdf downloads.
During this year, OUP off-printed a number of Bullard’s Christmas Carols, which means that all of the carols in ‘Alan Bullard Carols’ collection are now available separately. Here are the details of all OUP’s carols for 2021.
Looking at secular concert music, The Oxford Book of Flexible Choral Songs, edited by Alan Bullard and including some of his songs and arrangements, was published just a few months before the pandemic began – there’s a wide variety of music to explore here!
Bullard is continuing to add to his catalogue of upper voice songs. Please visit this page for a virtual repertoire session.
